Amid social media debate over whether Jungkook’s solo career has made him bigger than BTS, the K-pop icon recently achieved a record-breaking feat when his single, Seven, surpassed Miley Cyrus’ Flowers to become the fastest one billion streams on Spotify. But did you know that with the success of his debut mini-album, Golden, JK is on the verge of dethroning Taylor Swift’s reign on Billboard?

Jungkook of BTS has been on a record-breaking streak since making his solo debut. During an appearance on Jimmy Fallon’s chat show, the ‘Standing Next To You’ crooner, who has been thrashing records ‘Left & Right,’ revealed that while he expected a warm reception to his debut single, he had no idea it would grow up to become a chart-buster, taking the top spot on the Billboard Hot 100. With the release of Golden last week, Jungkook now has a second chance to dominate the streaming chart, and with ARMYs on his side, nothing is impossible for BTS’ maknae.

Jungkook to beat Taylor Swift?

Those who have been following pop music news are aware of Taylor Swift‘s cultural impact, with her complete dominance over every music chart that has existed. The singer, who just released her new album 1989 (Taylor’s Version), recently broke the record for the most Song of the Year Grammy nominations this year with seven. This woman possesses unparalleled power!

But what if we told you that the biggest K-pop icon, Jungkook, and Miss Americana Taylor Swift might have an unintended Billboard chart clash? That’s correct! Since Golden and 1989 (Taylor’s Version) were released around the same time, two of the biggest names in pop are currently competing in sales, and this is one true fan battle that we didn’t know we had on our 2023 Bingo card as we are as much an ARMY as we are a Swiftie.

The singer Taylor’s new album, 1989 (Taylor’s Version), topped the Billboard 200 chart last week and this week, selling 240,279 units. While many would expect Miss Swift to easily lead the chart for the third week in a row, Jungkook’s Golden, with 202,344 units sold, is making a solid case for the top spot as he slowly lurches to break some more records, implying more robust competition for Swift’s massive album than initially anticipated.

Jungkook and Taylor Swift are currently neck and neck, with JK trailing by only one spot and needing only 37,935 units to become the crown prince. While this may appear significant, given that both albums have already sold 200,000 units, the tables can turn at any time. The final figures will be released on November 18.
