Riyan Parag has not had the best of times in top-level cricket. In the Indian Premier League (IPL), he has failed to take off. The man from Assam has scored just 600 runs in 54 matches at an average of 16.21 and a strike rate of 123.96. He has had long periods of run-scoring droughts and has not been able to prove his worth in the greatest league on planet Earth. He has scored just two half-centuries and has a highest score of 56.

Recently in an interview, he said that he looks to Virat Kohli for advice whenever he needs help. “Virat Kohli is the biggest name in my phone contact, I recorded the whole call when we talked last time as I don’t want to disturb him, whenever I feel I need any advice I talk with him,” Parag said in an interview on clueless Harpals YouTube channel.

Riyan Parag scored 78 runs in seven games in Indian Premier League 2023

Parag copped a lot of flak as he had said he was going to hit six sixes in an over. He did not have a great season in IPL 2023. He scored just 78 runs from seven games and he could not produce the goods. Then. Parag made another statement where he said he has the capabilities to be an all-rounder for India and that he has the batting, bowling and fielding skills to become so. When he made that statement, he cooked up a storm on social media.

Talking about Kohli, he has always kept his door open for youngsters and people can always seek his advice when they need it. Parag however gave a good showing in the ACC U-19 Asia Cup and also had a good Deodhar Trophy where he scored big runs. Coming back to the former Indian captain he will want to be in top form ahead of the Asia Cup final against Sri Lanka.

The Men in Blue have won the Asia Cup six times and Sri Lanka have won it five times. In the Super Four stage, Sri Lanka gave a scare to India with the ball as Dunith Wellalage and Charith Asalanka picked up nine wickets between them. India however won the low-scoring encounter by 41 runs to make it to the final of the continental tournament.
