In a rain curtailed second ODI match between India and Australia saw Indian team won the match by 99 runs at Holkar Cricket Stadium in Indore. With this win the Indian team also ensured that they went 2-0 up in the series. This is also the fifth loss for Australia on a trout. The Australian skipper Steven Smith won the toss and elected to bowl first on a pitch that had a lot of the batters. The Indian openers, Ruturaj Gaikwad and Shubman Gill did not replicate the opening stand that they had in the first ODI match. But unfortunately, the former was dismissed by Josh Hazlewood. But then Shreyas Iyer and Gill combined to stitch a well-combined 200-run partnership.

The duo were majestical throughout the innings as both batters scored their respective centuries. But once Iyer was dismissed for a well-compiled 105 runs, Gill also followed partner to the hut for a well-played 104 runs. Β At once it was looking like the Indian team would be restricted to a total of something close to 320 but then, Suryakumar Yadav joined hands with skipper KL Rahul as both the batters went on to take the attack back to the opposition bowlers.

Australia suffered their fifth consecutive ODI loss

Australia got off to a rocky start when Prasidh Krishna struck in the second over, taking the wickets of Matthew Short (9) and Steve Smith (0) on consecutive deliveries. Nevertheless, David Warner (53) and Marnus Labuschagne (27) formed a solid partnership, adding 80 runs in 68 balls to stabilize the innings.

Their partnership was disrupted when Ravichandran Ashwin dismissed both Warner and Labuschagne in consecutive overs, leaving Australia at 100/4. After that setback, Australia couldn’t recover, succumbing to the immense pressure of the scoreboard and getting bowled out for 217 in 28.3 overs. India’s Ravichandran Ashwin (3/41 in 7 overs) and Ravindra Jadeja (3/42 in 5.2 overs) each claimed three wickets.

The speedster Sean Abbott (54) showed some grit and determination at the end of the innings but was not able to pull things in Australian favour. Abbott was the last Australian wicket to fall. He was picked by Jadeja.
