Pakistan lost the second Test in Multan by 26 runs to England and also inside four days. Pakistan had no answer to England’s ‘Bazball’ approach in red ball cricket. They did have a couple of partnerships in the middle order in the second innings, but they were no match for England’s quality bowling lineup.

After the second Test culminated, former Pakistan spinner Danish Kaneria questioned some of the selection calls in the second Test. He was furious with the team management for not playing Sarfaraz Ahmed and Fawad Alam in the Multan Test. He wanted Babar Azam to give him an opportunity in the third test.

“The players who were good, you don’t want to play them. You dropped Fawad Alam without any reason. You’ve kept Sarfaraz Ahmed away, you didn’t utilize him. (Jab is tarah zyadti karoge tab aapko ese hi results milenge) When you do such things, you’ll get similar results.” He said on his YouTube channel.

Is their any reason for not playing Sarfaraz Ahmed? – Danish Kaneria

“Give opportunities to Sarfaraz. It’s useless to make him sit in the dressing room. You better give that opportunity to the youngster who can learn something. What will Sarfaraz learn on the bench? He is an ex-captain and has been scoring runs in domestic cricket.” He added.

Sarfaraz had scored 394 runs in eight games at the Quaid-e-Azam trophy. Kaneria went on to say that Sarfaraz should play instead of Mohammad Rizwan who did not deliver in the second Test and that Sarfaraz should play in the third Test. If Sarfaraz play’s the Third Test against England, it will be his 50th for Pakistan.

“You’re playing Rizwan in Test, ODI, and T20Is. If you remove him and play Sarfaraz and if the latter performs, Pakistan will be forced to play him once again. Is this the reason why you’re not playing Sarfaraz? Bring him for Karachi Test. You’ve already lost the series.” The 35-year-old played his last Test for Pakistan against South Africa in 2019 and was the frontline keeper in tests for the Men in Green for a long time.
