The Indian Premier League in 2023 has been great to watch. There have been many last- ball and last over finishes through the tournament. It has been very exciting and nerve wrecking from the point of view of the fans. The games have been worth their while and the ratings of the games have skyrocketed across the TV and digital space. People have been tuned into the games more than ever and are absolutely loving it.
A cricket superfan from India has done a deduction of sorts with regards to Mumbai Indians playoff scenario. Here is what he said. Mumbai Indians qualification scenario 1: – DC defeat CSK or KKR defeat LSG. – MI defeat SRH. Scenario 2: – MI beat SRH by X runs. – GT beat RCB or RCB win by Y runs. X > Y + 80. These are the two scenarios that the super fan has deduced. MI are currently sixth on the points table in IPL 2023. A win against SRH will take them to 16 points.
The 2023 IPL has been a very close season. Rajasthan Royals despite not chasing their score of 187 against Punjab Kings in 18.3 overs are still in the hunt for the playoffs provided MI and RCB lose both their games. RR had made it to the finals of the 2022 edition but could not win their second title since 2008. They lost to Gujarat Titans at the Narendra Modi Stadium in 2022.
They have 14 points to their name having won seven matches and lost six. The five-time IPL champions have somehow managed to stay in contention for qualification. MI were hit by injuries to Jhye Richardson and Jasprit Bumrah. This hampered the bowling attack of MI. Their batting has somehow come to their rescue as they have managed to get a string of wins on home turf.
Their middle order consisting of Nehal Wadhera, Suryakumar Yadav, Tim David and Cameron Green have been scoring majority of the runs even as Rohit Sharma and Ishan Kishan have battled for form in IPL 2023. The opening duo for MI have had some runs under their belt but they have been inconsistent.
Let us take a look at the reactions on Twitter:

There are more chances of RCB vs GT cancelling due to rain… that’s more probable than Bangalore beating GT

GT, CSK, MI & RCB. Less chance for LSG because MI can easily win against the worst team of IPL23 SRH & since GT will rest their main players for playoffs, RCB can easily beat GT 'B' team & KKRvsLSG match could be abandoned due to rain & MI will qualify coz they'll have 8 wins!

In wankhade it is not easy to win by 80 runs .
40+ runs is still gettable

Also, if #KKRvLSG match is abandoned due to rain, LSG will reach 16 points. Then, if MI and RCB also reach 16 points, they both will move above LSG, because they will have 8 total wins, while LSG will have only 7 wins. In that case, a higher NRR doesn't matter for LSG.
