India batter KL Rahul is back in Bangalore after recovering from a thigh injury in London that he sustained during Indian Premier League (IPL) 2o23. Now the 31-year-old will focus on an extensive rehabilitation program. Post the thigh surgery, he will undergo the rehabilitation program and will look at making a comeback at the Asia Cup ahead of the 2023 ODI World Cup.

Rahul led the Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the IPL 2023 before he missed half of the tournament because of injury. He then was also ruled out of the World Test Championship final (WTC) which took place at the Oval and he was advised to undergo thigh surgery. Rahul had undergone a successful operation in England and on Tuesday posted pictures of NCA on his social media account with a tweet “home”.

KL Rahul will target a comeback into the Indian Team in the upcoming Asia Cup

KL Rahul has been in decent form for India in ODI cricket. If he scores big runs in the Asia Cup then he could end up playing a role at the 2o23 World Cup which will be played on Indian soil. This is the second time the 50-over tournament will be played in India after 2011. In that year, India, Bangladesh and Sri Lanka jointly co-hosted the tournament. This time India will host the tournament as a standalone nation.

The upcoming Asia Cup will be played in the ODI format as a backdrop in preparation to the ODI World Cup. Talking about Rahul, he has scored 1986 runs in 54 ODI matches at an average of 45.13 and at a strike rate of 86.57.

The right-handed batter has scored 13 fifties and five hundreds with the highest score of 112. Rahul has performed a dual role in ODI’s for India as he has opened the innings for the national side and also played in the middle order.

Since it has been reported that Rishabh Pant cannot make it to the ODI World Cup as he is still recovering from injuries, Rahul might have to don the gloves as well. India will play the West Indies in a full tour of two Tests, three ODIs and five T20Is.
