The Women’s Indian T20 League is just around the corner and the franchises from the men’s contest are bidding to bag a team in the inaugural season. It will be a turning point for boosting women’s cricket in India and the Indian cricket board is on a roll to ensure equality in the sport.

On January 23, Monday, reports emerged claiming that the Mumbai team’s owners Aakash Ambani and Nita Ambani are the front-runners to bag a team for the inaugural edition of the Women’s Indian T20 League. The reports further claimed that almost every franchise from the men’s tournament have bid to land a team for the women’s contest, meaning that the official announcement will be made on Wednesday, two days after the technical bidding concludes.

For the unversed, the Mumbai franchise already have teams in the ongoing International League T20 (ILT20) based in the United Arab Emirates and the South African league, SA20. While MI Emirates is based on ILT20, MI Cape Town is based on SA20 and notably, both teams have been doing their best in the competitive tournaments.

Adani group to get a Women’s Indian T20 League team despite competing with Aakash Ambani?

Reports further suggest that the Adani group, owned by renowned business tycoon Gautam Adani, are keen on securing a Women’s Indian T20 League team. It remains to be seen if they would make up for losing it out on the Gujarat franchise in the Indian T20 League, although they have underplayed the matter so far.

Fans, on the other hand, are keen on finding out the teams that will participate in the inaugural edition and the franchises’ owners. It would be a great morale booster for women’s cricket, given that India have found stars like Harmanpreet Kaur, Smriti Mandana, Radha Yadav and Shafali Varma in the decade.

Much to the surprise of the Indian fans, reports claimed that the owners of Manchester United football club are also a part of the race to land a team. With too many companies in the hunt, one has to agree that it is could be an exciting season for all the women stars from India and across the world.
