South Africa’s loss to the Netherlands have opened up Pakistan’s chances of semi-final qualification in the 20-20 World Cup. From the midst of the ouster, the Babar Azam-led side are presented with a chance to get through to the next stage with a win against Bangladesh.
The Men in Green were asked to bowl first after losing the toss. Shaheen Afridi who had remained wicketless until the third match of the campaign rose back to the challenge and paved the way for Pakistan to win in the do-or-die match against Bangladesh.
Coming onto bowl first, Pakistan started off on the back foot as Najmul Hossain Shanto and Litton Das began with the same pace as they played against India. It was however the left-arm pacer who broke the partnership and brought Pakistan right back into the game.
From then on, it was Pakistan’s and moreover Afridi’s inning as he took three more to halt Bangladesh’s inning at just 127/8. The left-arm pacer bowled out Mosaddek Hossain with a peach of a delivery. His third scalp was Nurul Hasan while whereas Taskin Ahmed became the fourth one.
Shaheen Afridi ended the inning with a sensational bowling figure of 4-22-4. With his latest spell, the left-arm bowler has amassed 8 wickets in five matches so far. Pakistan are currently playing at 67/2 with Mohammad Haris and Mohammad Nawaz at the crease.
