In the first double header of the day, IPL rivals’ subsidiaries, MI Cape Town and Joburg Super Kings locked horns in Johannesburg. While the Super Kings couldn’t get their tournament going as the opening game against the defending champions, Sunrisers Eastern Cape washed out. On the other hand, MI lost to the Durban Super Giants via the DLS method. Meanwhile, in this game, the home team won the toss and elected to bowl first.
The decision proved to be a detrimental one as MI openers, Ryan Rickelton and Rassie van der Dussen put together 200 runs in just 15.3 overs. While the latter failed to reach his maiden SA20 hundred, Van der Dussen hit the first hundred of the season. Liam Livingstone (12) played a cameo and the team reached the highest total of the season, i.e 243/5 at the end of the innings.
In reply, the home team had a poor start and they were never in the game. It all started with a run out of Reeza Hendricks due to the confusion with skipper Faf du Plessis. Apart from this, Du Plessis (6) and Ronan Herrmann (9). Only four batters, Moeen Ali (11), Leus du Plooy (48), Donovan Ferreira (14), and Romario Shepherd (34) reached the double-digit mark. In the end, the Yellow Brigade was bowled out for 145, losing the game by 98 runs. While the Blue Brigade bowlers dominated the proceedings, the 2023 semifinalists had a forgettable day.
For the visitors, Olly Stone and George Linde took two wickets each. On the other hand, Beuran Hendricks, Kagiso Rabada, Sam Curran, and Liam Livingstone took one each.
Kieron Pollard, MI Cape Town captain: They (the openers) laid the foundation for us, not just today but last game as well. With the runs we had, we gave ourselves a good chance. (On the starts they have gotten this season) Very, very pleasing. It was one of the things we had to fix. When you go out and exercise your talent, it works wonders. It is our duty to give them confidence and boy, have they done it. They say success is boring, so we have to keep doing that process over and over again. Winning and getting a bonus point will do wonders for us. We knew the ball was going to fly, and one of the conversations was to limit the damage as much as possible and not fighting fire with fire.

The only concern for MICT this game will be how Brevis, Pollard, Livingstone and SCurran could only take them to 243 after being 200 in 15 overs.
If any two of those 4 can find some form moving forward no other team looks as strong as @MICapeTown. #SA20 #JSKvMICT

Faf said we thought we would be chasing 300 😂 But we read the conditions wrong, and we know what to do from here on is the message from the loss. Watch out for our comeback 😎🏆💛 #JSK #JSKvMICT #SA20
