Former Indian legend, Sunil Gavaskar, expresses concern toward the debutant Prasidh Krishna’s bowling. Gavaskar has encouraged Krishna to consult his seniors and coaches if he aspires to win a permanent spot in the Indian team.
His test debut against South Africa started on a poor note as he just took two wickets at an average of 65. Despite being a pace-friendly track, his average was 4.64 runs per over. His bowling lacked both momentum and rhythm and thus ended up taking fewer wickets in the two test matches.

Sunil Gavaskar while discussing Star Sports said, “Prasidh Krishna needs to think about his bowling. He needs to sit with the bowling coach. He should sit with Jasprit Bumrah, who is the leader of the pack, and talk to him. Yes, this series is over but if he has to play for India going forward, he will have to do lots of consultations with senior people.”
Krishna’s struggle in the South African tracks was visible when he conceded 93 runs in 20 overs in his debut match. Although he did take one wicket in the first match, his bowling seemed to be off in the first match. However, he played the second test match and took only one wicket.
Sunil Gavaskar, the legend, feels that if Krishna is given more matches to play, he might improve his bowling. Since it was his first series, Gavaskar feels he was nervous and didn’t bowl up to mark. Gavaskar also shed light on how the bowling speed of Krishna has decreased as compared to how he bowls during IPL. Krishna couldn’t maintain his line and length and as a result, Markram hit him out of the part.
“Prasidh Krishna was the weak link in India’s bowling. We sometimes get carried away with speeds of 140-145 kph but we need to see if he has that ability or not. He does not have that much experience. He might improve after playing more matches,” said Sunil Gavaskar.
