India completed the ninth win of the ODI World Cup 2023. The home side has registered a win in each of their matches so far in the World Cup. The domination of the home side continues, as they defeat yet another opponent in the tournament. This time around, the Netherlands faced a huge defeat to a collective team effort from India in a packed M Chinnaswamy stadium in Bengaluru.
The Indian captain Rohit Sharma won the toss and elected to bat first. Right from the word go, the Indian players were at their best. In the Powerplay overs, the Indian openers posted a mammoth score of 92 runs. Rohit scored yet another fifty in the tournament. In 54 balls, Rohit scored 61 runs including 8 fours and 2 sixes. At the other end, Shubman Gill played an aggressive knock.
In 32 balls, Gill scored 51 runs, which included 3 fours and 4 massive sixes. Virat Kohli batted well too. The star batter scored 51 runs in 56 balls. But the stars of the Indian innings were Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul, who scored hundreds respectively. While Iyer scored 128 runs in 94 balls, Rahul scored 102 runs in 64 balls. Rahul scored his hundred in just 62 balls, the fastest for an Indian batter in the World Cup history.
Defending the target, the Indian bowlers did not make many mistakes. The pace bowlers were taken for some hits in the Powerplay overs. But the spin duo of Kuldeep Yadav and Ravindra Jadeja bowled miserly spells in the middle overs and brought India back in the game. After that, India just tested some of their part-time bowling options.
A total of 9 bowlers were used in the innings by the home side. Barring Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul, everyone else bowled for India. Virat bowled three overs. Shubman Gill and Suryakumar Yadav bowled a couple of overs as well. The captain himself bowled five balls. Virat and Rohit picked a wicket each in their spell. In the end, India won the match by 160 runs and ended the group stage of the tournament unbeaten.
