India and Ireland drew swords against each other in the first T20I. The Men in Blue won the toss and opted to bowl first before they won the game by 2 runs via (Duckworth Lewis Stein) DLS method. There were a few players who were making a comeback into the Indian side, namely Jasprit Bumrah and Prasidh Krishna. Bumrah had a great match as bowler and captain of the side. He took 2-24 in his four overs, which included the wickets of Andrew Balbirnie and Lorcan Tucker.
Bumrah’s captaincy was also spot on as he got the DRS calls right as well. He was also awarded the Player of the Match (POTM) for his efforts. Along with Bumrah, Prasidh Krishna had a memorable comeback from injury as well. The Karnataka pacer took 2-32 in his four overs spell and claimed the wickets of Harry Tector and George Dockrell. Bumrah had a back injury and this meant the India pace spearhead was out of international cricket for a long spell.
He missed the T20 World Cup 2022, the Indian Premier League (IPL), the World Test Championship final and also the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Bumrah went through rehabilitation at the National Cricket Academy (NCA). Then he played some practice matches at Bengaluru to ascertain his level of fitness. He was then given the go-ahead to make a comeback in the 3-match T20I series against Ireland.
In the match against Ireland, Ravi Bishnoi also gave a good account of himself, as the wrist-spinner picked up 2-23 in his four overs spell. This is a good sign for India as Bishnoi played only one game in the five-match T20I series against the West Indies and did not fare well. The Indian side lost the 5-match T20I series to the West Indies 3-2 recently. The Indian team would use the Ireland series to iron out its flaws and be sure of its combinations ahead of the T20 World Cup 2024 in the Caribbean and the USA.
