The position of Rohit Sharma as India’s Test captain appears to be in doldrums following India’s World Test Championship final loss to Australia at the Oval. According to reports, Rohit Sharma will lead the Indian Team against the West Indies in Tests and then chalk out a plan for what could be the last phase of his cricketing career along with the Indian Cricket Board official, especially in Test cricket.
Rohit will captain the team to the Caribbean unless there is a last-minute resignation from his side. On another note, if Rohit records poor returns in the West Indies series then the Indian Cricket Board top brass will have to take the tough call and potentially sack him as captain in the longer format of the game.
“These are baseless stuff that Rohit will be removed from captaincy. Yes, whether he will last the whole two-year WTC cycle is a big question as he would be nearly 38 when the third edition ends in 2025,” an Indian Cricket Board official said.
“As of now, I believe that Shiv Sunder Das and his colleagues will have to take a call after the two Tests and looking at his batting form.” In fact, the BCCI works very differently from other sporting organisations. The official added. “After West Indies, we have no Tests till December-end when the team travels to South Africa. So there is enough time for selectors to deliberate and take a decision. By then the fifth selector (new chairman) will also join the panel and a decision can be taken,” the official further reiterated.
Rohit, recently, led India to a 2-1 series win at home against Australia where India retained the Border-Gavaskar trophy. The Men in Blue are looking like they will go through another transition phase as a lot of players in the Test side have their ages on the higher side of 30. The Asia Cup will take place after the West Indies tour and also the 2o23 ODI World Cup is right around the corner in October.
Let us take a look at the reactions on Twitter:
He won't be sacked like Virat Kohli on phone call 😂😭

England took 1 month to press reset within WTC cycle. Identified new coach captain and players , revamped everything. Our folks will sit for years and years raking in IPL money. What will be outcome of the review? won't change any players & ask same players to play "differently

He should stay for at least 1-2 years, it'll be chaos without proper succession planning. There are bigger issues than captaincy at the moment to deal with in our squad🥲

Why only test captaincy he should leave odi captaincy also and either any new captain should captain india in the upcoming world cup or Virat should come back as odi captain. Virat was a great captain couldn't win icc trophy but the intent was there and also india performed great

Ek banda series haara nahi ki usko hatao. Iss hisaab se sayad kbhi ko captain secure mehsoos nahi karega. Mere hisaab se Rohit Sharma ko hi captain rehna chahiye.
Better tarike se IPL aur International duties mein player ko involve krna chahiye.Sbko pta tha ki WTC haarenge.

Mark my word :
No matter how much these agenda peddlers cry and no matter how much negativity Virat PR agencies spread against Ro, Rohit will be test captain till WTC final 2025.🏆— Diwas Aryal45 (@Diwasaryal45) June 14, 2023
Sensible if only limited for westindies tour as post that Bumrah, Shreyas may be fit to take over from him , though if rishabh could recover in time will be foremost choice to lead India in tests

😂😂😂 I think this series is where you have to start transition. This is easier tour compared to other plus new ones will get overseas experience. We already so it's not Rohit's cup of tea so why not go for someone else
