The battle for the urn will resume as England and Australia will lock horns against each other in the 2023 Ashes. The two countries will play in a five-match series in England. Australia won the last Ashes in 2021 which was held on home soil. This will be a hard-fought series. Australia will take some heart from the fact that they have won the World Test Championship (WTC) against India at the Oval and will look forward to continuing the momentum.

Glenn McGrath was asked for his comments ahead of Ashes 2023.  “I think it was a perfect lead-up (WTC final win) for Australia into the Ashes, gives them a lot of confidence (in general), and (confidence) to play in the conditions. So, I think they are in a good spot. Mcgrath said on Sportstar as he talked about Australia’s preparation ahead of the Ashes,” he said.

All the Ashes Test matches are going to go down to the wire- Glenn Mcgrath

“England, there’s a lot of talk about Bazball, and I’m a big fan. I like backing yourself, going out there, and being positive. I think playing against Australia is going to be a different kettle of fish because they’ve got a quality bowling attack. Lesser bowling attacks, Bazball’s very effective. So, it’s gonna be interesting to see how they go. I think the first Test match is incredibly important. Whoever gets off to a good start, I think they can carry a bit of momentum,” the former Australian speedster added.

“It’s gonna be great series. Each Test match I think is gonna go right down to the wire with Australia winning each Test match. So, my prediction is 5-nil,” he added in a fun tone. Notably, England, while playing Bazball, has maintained an impressive run rate of 4.85  in  2022 in Test cricket. Their top five batters always have batted with freedom and have a strike rate of 75. England also registered a 3-0 series win in Pakistan with the help of Bazball earlier this year.

England are also in Test mode having played a four-day Test match at Lords against Ireland recently. Australia would look to try and dominate the 2o23 Ashes right from the word go. The Kangaroos are high on confidence at this moment having secured a huge victory of 209 runs over India at the WTC final.
