‘Kisi bilateral PayTM cup me 2-1 se hara kar badla le lenge’- Fans react as Australia U-19 hands another World Cup final loss to India U-19 by 79 runs

Fans react as Australia U-19 beats India U-19 by 79 runs in the finals.

Similar to the lines of the 2024 Men’s ODI World Cup final, India suffered yet another humiliating loss to Australia in another Apex Governing Council tournament final. The Australian U-19 team defeated India in the 2024 U-19 World Cup final to clinch their 4th U-19 World Cup. India’s U-19 team led by Uday Saharan was not able to defend their title and lost to Australia in a one-sided affair.

From the outset, Australia dominated the final both with the bat and the ball. Opting to bat first, they set a challenging target of 253 runs, backed by stellar performances from Oliver Peake and Harjas Singh. Despite facing some resistance from the Indian bowlers, Australia managed to post a competitive total for the Indian batting lineup against an array of lethal Aussie pacers.

Indian batting never looked in the chase

In response, India faltered early on, with opener Adarsh Singh showing resilience with a 77-ball 47. However, the batting order crumbled under pressure, losing wickets at regular intervals and failing to build substantial partnerships. Despite a valiant effort from Murugan Abhishek towards the end, India’s innings ended at 174 runs, falling short of the target by a significant margin.

The loss in the U-19 World Cup final evoked memories of the senior team’s defeat to Australia in the 50-over World Cup final. The similarities in the manner of defeat highlighted the need for finding a way out to absorb the pressure of big matches against big teams and bring out your A game.

While Australia’s batting lineup showcased depth and resilience, it was Australia’s pace battery that wreaked havoc on the Indian batters on a pitch that was assisting the pacers. Mahli Beardman and Raf MacMillan wreaked havoc on the Indian batsmen, with crucial contributions from Callum Vidler and Charlie Anderson. Despite commendable efforts from Raj Limbani and Naman Tiwari in the Indian bowling attack, Australia’s dominance remained unchallenged.
