The big news is that Sourav Ganguly’s security cover has been upgraded to Z category by the West Bengal Government. Ganguly is currently with the Delhi Capitals in the 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League. He has been appointed as an advisor for the franchise this year. The decision with regard to change in security category was taken on Tuesday. This happened after his category Y tenure had expired. The following was said by a senior official.
“As the security cover of the VVIP expired, a review was done as per the protocol and it was decided to raise Ganguly’s security cordon to Z category,” The official said. Under the category Z security, the former Indian Cricket Board president will have 8 to 10 police personnel by his side. The official said. This is a major upgrade from the category Y cover where three police officers from the special branch. This was supplemented by three law enforcers who were entitled to guard his residence which was situated at Behala.

“Ganguly is currently travelling with his team Delhi Daredevils and will return to Kolkata on May 21. He will start getting Z category security from that very day,” The official added. Representatives of the state secretariat reached his Behala office on Tuesday. A meeting was held between the local police station, and it also involved officers from Kolkata Police headquarters Lalbazar.
Ganguly was the former president of the Indian Cricket Board. He was recently replaced by Roger Binny for the top post. When it comes to the big wigs of West Bengal receiving category Z security, West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, Bengal Governor CV Ananda Bose and a couple of ministers have been provided such a high level of security. Ganguly has served a the former captian for the Indian Cricket team and had a distinguished tenure when he was at the top post.
DC have not had the best of seasons in IPL 2023. The sit at the bottom of the points table having played 12 games. They have four wins and eight losses to show for their efforts. The have two games to go in IPL 2023. But they are out of the playoffs race.
