The Bangalore franchise recently had an “Unbox” event where they launched their new jersey. The greats of the Bangalore franchise such as AB de Villiers and Chris Gayle were inducted into the hall of fame. Another stat has emerged that Bangalore have won the most number of matches in the last two Indian T20 League seasons.
The franchise won nine matches in the 2021 season. The Bold Army finished the league in 3rd position. In 2022, they finished in fourth place with eight wins and also won the eliminator against Pune. Bangalore have not been able to win a trophy in 15 years. The Bold Army made it to three finals in 2009, 2011, and 2016. Faf du Plessis took charge of the side in 2022. Virat Kohli had stepped down as skipper of the franchise after the 2021 season.
Bangalore managed to bolster the squad for 2023. They have brought in the likes of Michael Bracewell and Reece Topley. But the franchise have also been hit by injuries. Josh Hazelwood and Rajat Patidar are down with injuries. Patidar has a heel injury and has not gotten NCA clearance. Hazelwood is yet to recover from his Achilles Tendonitis. The duo are likely to miss the first half of the Indian T20 League.
The franchise retained the core of the squad and released very few players ahead of this season. The Bold Army has reached the playoffs in the last three seasons. Bangalore will be looking to break their trophy drought this season. The franchise shall look to overcome the challenges that they had faced in the Chinnaswamy Stadium. All the franchises will be playing at their home venues after a gap of three years.
This year, the Indian T20 League will be played in 12 venues. Rules like ‘impact player’ and the teams drafting their playing XI after the toss should make things interesting for the teams. The tickets have been sold like hotcakes and the excitement among the fans is huge. This season promises to be bigger and better.
