Australia finally got off the mark in the Border-Gavaskar Trophy with a commanding nine-wicket win in Indore. Australia read the conditions better in Indore and used the red soil pitch which generated great bounce to good effect. The spin trio of Nathan Lyon, Todd Murphy and Mathew Kuhemann were too good for India.
In the third Test, Steve Smith took over the reins of captaincy from Pat Cummins after Australia had lost the Delhi Test because Cummins flew home to attend to his ailing mother. Now reports have come in that Smith will lead Australia in the 4th Test which will be played at Ahmedabad. Smith has an astute cricketing brain and has led Australia well in the past.
Under the captaincy of Smith, Australia have played in 34 Tests and the Kangaroos have won 18 of them while they have lost 10 Tests. 8 matches were drawn when Smith led the side. The 33-year-old has the second-best batting average after Don Bradman, which is 70.36, when he has led the side. Bradman had an average of 101.51.

When it comes to batting and captaincy, Smith does a phenomenal job there as well as captaincy brings the best out of Smith. The right-handed batter has scored 3659 runs in 34 matches with one double hundred, 15 hundreds and 13 fifties.
He is sixth on the list of all-time run scorers while leading Australia. He is fourth on the list when it comes to having the most half-centuries which are 28 in Tests as a batter and is only behind the great Ricky Ponting. Smith was removed from captaincy after the sandpaper gate scandal took place against South Africa.

Good for Australia. Steve Smith knows how to use the spinners well. Should have captained the first test two match as well. If India needs to win the next match our top order needs to step up, especially Virat. Being a senior batsman hasn't scored any impactful innings so far.
