‘Aiden Markram blows JSK away with a fantastic hundred’ – Twitter erupts as Sunrisers Eastern Cape advance to SA20 final with a win over Joburg Super Kings

The second semi-final of the SA20 took place between the Joburg Super Kings and Sunrisers Eastern Cape. The match took place at SuperSport park at Centurion. The Super Kings won the toss and chose to bowl. The Sunrisers got off to the worst possible start. Wicketkeeper batter Adam Rossington was dismissed for just 6 off 8 balls, with one four.
Temba Bavuma departed for a first-ball duck. At 10-2, the Sunrisers were in big trouble, but they were brought back into the game with Jordan Hermann’s innings of 48 off 36 balls, including five fours and one six. The star of the show was Aiden Markram, who made 100 off 56 balls with six fours and six sixes.
Aiden Markram led South Africa to an U19 title win in 2014
He smashed the Super Kings bowlers and pulverized them into submission. The bowlers did not know what hit them. It was batting of the highest class from Markram, who had also led South Africa to a U19 World Cup title in 2014. The tall right-hand batter has also been an effective part-time bowler and has given indications that he would want to lead South Africa in future.
Markram’s knock helped the Sunrisers to register a big total on the board in their 20 overs at 213-5. The Sunrisers got the finishing kick from Tristian Stubbs who made 20 off 11 balls with two fours and one six. Jordan Cox made 18 off 6 balls with two sixes. Lizaad Williams picked up 4-36 and was the best bowler for the Super Kings.
In the run chase, the Super Kings did not start well as they lost skipper Faf du Plessis and Gerald Coetzee for a duck and 12 respectively. Leus du Plooy fell quickly after but innings of 96 off 54 balls with 11 fours and four sixes from Reeza Hendricks kept the hopes alive.
Donavan Ferreira made 20 off 9 balls with three fours and one six. Romario Shepherd made 38 off 14 balls with one four and four sixes. In the end, it was not enough as they fell short by 14 runs. Let us take a look at reactions on Twitter with regard to Markram’s knock:
