Umpires in cricket are allowed to give a soft signal for a catch even as they send the decision to the third umpire. This has on many occasions created issues for the batting team as the soft signal given by the umpire often depends on the intensity of the appeal or celebration by the fielding side.
If given out, the third umpire needs to get a piece of conclusive evidence to overturn the decision and cannot change the decision even if the ball looks to slightly touch the ground.
