With each Royal Rumble, there is curiosity about which surprise entrants will emerge from behind the curtain to make their return for the main event. From past legends to current superstars who have been sidelined with injury, the Rumble has produced some of the most spectacular returns in WWE history.

Sgt. Slaughter, Rob Van Dam, and Kurt Angle have all made memorable Royal Rumble returns, but we’ve compiled a list of the top five. So let’s have a look at 5 best surprises in Royal Rumble‘s history.

1. Kevin Nash returned as Diesel in 2011

Some Royal Rumble surprises take you off guard, and you end up cheering for someone who would not have piqued your interest. Such was the situation in 2011 when Kevin Nash returned as Diesel for the Royal Rumble battle. When Big Daddy Cool’s theme song came on, the crowd went crazy. Even Matt Striker, on commentary, articulated what many fans were thinking when he had to stop himself from saying “Holy s—!” on air.

While Diesel was a former WWE champion, most fans remember him for his WCW and later WWE run as Big Sexy Kevin Nash. One of the big moments of each Royal Rumble is when the first two members are introduced. The anticipation finally ends when the fans see the first two stars entering the ring.
