‘4 wickets remaining for fifer’ – Fans react as Virat Kohli picks up wicket in ODI after 9 years

Virat Kohli got the wicket of the opposition captain.

Virat Kohli was asked to bowl in the match against Netherlands by the Indian captain. Virat did not disappoint, as he bowled an economical little spell including a priceless wicket. Rohit was forced to give some overs to part-time bowlers like Virat Kohli, Suryakumar Yadav and Shubman Gill, as the regular bowler, Mohammad Siraj, shelled a catch and injured his throat during the match.

Virat bowled better than everyone expected him to. The right-arm medium pacer hit the right lengths with the pace he could. The Dutch batters seemed to be watchful against the star cricketer. Scott Edwards and Sybrand Engelbrecht faced the spell of Virat. The 35-year-old operated in good line and length and did not give any room for the batters.

Virat did bowl some bad balls here and there. But he was right on the money for most parts. In the last ball of his first over, Virat induced an outside edge of the batter, which pleased him. The following over, Virat got the wicket of the opposition captain. The crowd erupted as Virat got the wicket. Everyone in the stands had smiles and cheered their favourite cricketer.

Anย ODI wicket after 9 years for Virat Kohli

Virat bowled slightly towards the leg. As Edwards tried to glance it towards the square leg, an edge was induced. KL Rahul made no mistakes, as he caught it to let out a huge appeal. He knew it was out. As Rahul appealed for it, Virat’s eyes widened. As Kohli appealed, the umpires raised his finger. Virat was delighted with the dismissal. He got the big wicket of Edwards, who scored 17 runs in 30 balls.

It was the first wicket for Virat Kohli in ODIs in 9 years. The last time he claimed a wicket in the format was in India’s tour of New Zealand in 2014. In Wellington, Virat bowled 7 overs and conceded only 36 runs including the wicket of a dangerous Brendon McCullum. India lost that match by 87 runs. But Virat had done a very good job as the sixth bowler in the match.
