Cricket is a cruel game sometimes. Spectators have to watch their favourite team lose, their favourite batter get bowled and their favourite bowler underperform. It is, however, more so cruel for players who try a lot and still do not get selected on merit.
Something like this happened with a young fast bowler from Hyderabad, Pakistan as well. 16-year-old Shoaib Bhutto had great hopes for his cricket career. He wanted to follow in the footsteps of Pakistan’s great Shoaib Akhtar and don the green jersey.
All of his hopes however came crashing down when he wasn’t selected for a tournament conducted by the Pakistan Cricket Board. Sources say that the young bowler was very talented and performed well prior to this tournament but was rejected by the coach due to personal reasons.
This news hit the young player like a truck and he wasn’t able to come to terms with it. Shoaib later attempted suicide by cutting his wrist. 24newshd was the first to report on this news. Ali Hamza Zaidi, a reporter covering this story told Indian sources, “His family, friends and the people who knew him, claimed that he was a laborious guy. He was supposed to be selected on the back of merit in PCB organized tournament. This tournament is set to be played in Hyderabad’s Niaz Stadium.”
“Shoaib’s coach didn’t select him because of a personal ego issue and also argued with the youngster. So, he happened to cut his wrist at his home, his family, friends and fellow players are very concerned about him as he is currently in very critical condition,” added Zaidi.
Shoaib was rushed to a nearby Civil hospital in Hyderabad, Pakistan but was referred to a private hospital when his condition became critical. Shoaib’s family say that the youngster was depressed after his exclusion from the tournament which forced him to take this grave decision.
