Young Indian pacer called up for 2nd Test against South Africa after humiliating loss in 1st Test

Avesh Khan roped in for the 2nd test at Cape Town as replacement for Mohammed Shami

India’s loss to South Africa by an innings and 32 runs has left the Indian fans and the management a lot to ponder about before the 2nd test at Newlands Stadium in Cape Town. Apart from KL Rahul and Virat Kohli, everyone looked at sea against a potent South African attack under testing conditions.

But what will be worrying the Indian think tank more will be the lack of venom in the bowling attack that could test the Proteas batters in their home conditions. Apart from Jasprit Bumrah, who secured four wickets, the remaining bowlers failed to pose a significant threat, despite the advantageous bowling conditions in Centurion.

Prasidh Krishna, in his debut, showed a lacklustre performance in the 1st Test vs South Africa, conceding 93 runs in 20 overs and only managing to secure one wicket. Shardul Thakur fared even worse, with figures of 1/101 in a mere 19 overs.

To bolster the bowling attack, the management has roped in Avesh Khan in India’s squad for the second Test against South Africa. This move comes as a replacement for the talented pacer, Mohammed Shami, who, unfortunately, remains unavailable due to an injury.

Avesh Khan’s Impressive Track Record

Avesh Khan boasts an exceptional record in first-class cricket, having claimed 149 wickets in just 38 games at an impressive average of 22.65. His recent contribution to the Indian team during the ODI series against South Africa showcased his ability to perform under pressure, setting the stage for his inclusion in the Test squad.

Avesh Khan is currently with the India A side, showcasing his skills in a four-day tour match against South Africa A at Benoni. In the first innings, he returned impressive figures of 23.3-5-54-5, playing a pivotal role in bowling out the hosts for 263.

As the Indian team gears up for the second Test, the expectations are clear – a cohesive and effective bowling unit. The collective effort of the pace bowlers will be instrumental in setting the tone for the match and putting South Africa on the back foot.
