‘Yeh woh moholle ki team nehin hai…’ – Wasim Akram is fuming after Pakistan’s loss to Zimbabwe

Zimbabwe defeated Pakistan in, yet another upset in the 20-20 World Cup. After keeping Zimbabwe down to a low total of 130. Pakistan could not deliver with the bat because of a fragile middle order, and this resulted in a stunning one run defeat to the Chevrons.
The one run loss had Wasim Akram fuming as it raised questions about Pakistan’s middle order, the non-selection of Shoaib Malik and the captaincy of Babar Azam. This has put Pakistan’s road in the 20-20 World Cup in jeopardy.
Pakistan now have to win all their remaining games by huge margins and would also have to hope for several other results to go their way. Malik was expected to be a part of the 20-20 World Cup squad but was shown the door by the selectors in the end.

Speaking to A Sports, this is what Akram had to say, “Ek saal se Pakistan, including us (Malik, Waqar Younis and Misbah ul Haq) knew that middle order slightly weak hai. Ab yeh ladka baitha hai Shoaib Malik. Main agar captain hota, mera end goal kya hota…to win the World Cup. Agar usskeliye mujhe gadhe ko bhi baap banana pare main banaunga beacuse mujhe World Cup jeetna hain. Agar mujhe Shoaib Malik chaiye toh main chairman and selector ko jaake kahunga ki I will not play World Cup if I don’t get my player. But aisa koi hain nehin. Babar ko aur akalmand hona parega. Yeh woh moholle ki team nehin hai ki mera jaanne wala aa jayega. Agar main hota toh iss ladke ko (Malik) sabse pehle middle order main leta,” he said.
(We all knew that the Pakistan middle order was slightly weak, if i was the captain, Shoaib Malik would definitely be in the side, my goal would be to win the world cup as skipper, I would want to win the World Cup at any cost. If I wanted Shoaib Malik in the side, I would have conveyed to the chairman of selectors that i would have him at any cost. But it was not the case. Babar Azam should have some brains that this is not a side picked to play gully cricket and that only people known to him will get a chance. I would have surely included Shoaib in the team).
