‘Yeh tho ekdum clinical performance tha’ – Fans react as Dambulla Aura floor Colombo Strikers by 50 runs in LPL 2023
The 18th match of the Lanka Premier League (LPL) took place between Dambulla Aura (DMA) and Colombo Strikers (CLS). DMA won the toss and chose to bat. They got off to a very rickety start as they were 46-4 in 6.5 overs. Avishka Fernando, Kusal Mendis, Sadeera Samarawickrama and Dhananjaya de Silva were all back in the hut. When they looked in peril, the franchise found heroes in two Australians Ben McDermott and Alex Ross.
McDermott smashed an unbeaten 59 off 46 balls with four fours and four sixes. The Australian smashed the CLS bowlers all over the place as they were left awestruck by what hit them. McDermott found a wonderful partner in Australian teammate Ross who cracked 52 off 38 balls with four fours and four sixes. The two of them had a partnership of 102 runs for the 5th wicket. This took DMA to a total of 166-5 in their 20 overs.
Hasan Ali picked up 3-16 in the run chase for Dambulla Aura
Matheesha Pathirana was the best bowler for CLS as he picked up 2-36 in his four overs. In the run chase, the CLS batters could not get going at all. The DMA bowlers kept on picking up wickets at regular intervals which meant that the CLS batters could not break free of the leash. The highest scorer for CLS was Nuwanidu Fernando who hit 21 off 20 balls with three fours.
Hasan Ali was amongst the wickets for DMA as he picked up 3-16 in his four overs. The Pakistan speedster also had great support from his bowling group. Noor Ahmad and Dushan Hemantha picked up two wickets each in their respective four-over spells. Binura Fernando took 2-18 in his 3.4 over spell. This was a very comprehensive win for DMA as they beat CLS by 50 runs. While CLS have come crashing down to the bottom of the points table after this loss, DMA have qualified for the playoffs.
CLS play their next game against B-Love Kandy on 13 Aug. DMA on the other hand will face B-Love Kandy in their next fixture on 14 Aug. Top four teams from the points table will get into the playoffs. The playoff phase promises to be very exciting. The games in the tournament have been very electric so far.
Let us take a look at the reactions on Twitter:
I swear babar is not a robot to score every time, @ColomboStrikers have a very weak middle order. I’m so sad 😞

Sorry to say I was supporting this team but I don't know that this is just a TATTI team. Where are Sri Lankan players. The whole batting department depends on one and only @babarazam258 and bowling department depends on Naseem Shah and Pathirana. Is this a team?

Bring a proper hitter to the middle order. Dont waste Movin Subasinghe by keeping him on the bench. Why on earth you spend on a player like Angelo Perera and giving him a chance. This is very silly.

They got the weakest batting combination.

4 Overs | 27 Runs | 1 Wicket Another impressive spell by Hassan Ali for Dambulla Aura in LPL 2023. He was also man of the match in previous match. He was the player of the tournament in champions trophy 2017 but still no tweet from him after Team's announcement 😊 #PAKvAFG pic.twitter.com/DUaJ7D4DYR
