Watch: Ben McDermott pulls off unbelievable catch vs Sydney Sixers in BBL 12
The Big Bash League 2022/23 is approaching its very end and the teams are giving the final push to make a cut to the playoffs. On January 23, Monday, Sydney Sixers faced off against Hobart Hurricanes and eventually outclassed with the bat after being forced post losing the toss. Much to the delight of the Australian fans, their veteran star Steve Smith continued on his form but missed out on a hat-trick of tons.
While Smith’s innings was widely praised all over social media, Ben McDermott’s catch to remove Hayden Kerr off Patrick Dooley in the first ball of the 11th over turned out to be the talk of the game. To add more, Kerr tried to pull the mid-length ball towards deep mid-wicket, only to be caught by McDermott.

Sydney Sixers continue on purple patch in ongoing season
Smith’s return to form would be one of the takeaways for the Kangaroos from the ongoing competition, meaning that he is highly likely to return as an all-format batter for Australia at the earliest. While Smith scored a 33-ball 66, Ben Dwarshuis’ 14-ball 30 gave the final push for the team as they put on 180 runs on the board at the end of the first innings.
As far as the bowling is concerned for the Hurricanes, it was Dooley who stood up for the team with his three-for and it was Smith’s wicket that changed the fortunes of the Matthew Wade-led team. Chasing the target, the Hurricanes were reeling at 123/5 in 15.3 overs requiring 58 runs off 27 balls for the win.
Sixers, in all likelihood, might end up as the champions of the ongoing season given the veteran in the best of his forms and skipper Moises Henriques’ bold moves during the game are playing a vital role in the team’s progress. If at all the Sixers make it to the summit clash, one could understand that it would be a mighty challenge for the opponents to take them down, given the form that they have been in of late.
