Misfortune struck India in the fourth Test at Ahmedabad. Shreyas Iyer has had problems with his lower back, prompting him to go for scans. The India batter complained of back pain at the end of the third day’s play of the fourth Test. After he did, he was constantly under the supervision of the medical team of the Indian Cricket Board.

So far, there has been no update if Iyer will bat for India in the Ahmedabad Test. Iyer has been a key player for India in Tests. The Mumbai batter is a good player of spin and has been an integral part of the test side since he made his Test debut against New Zealand at Green Park stadium in Kanpur.

Iyer has scored 666 runs in 10 matches in white flannels for India. In Tests he has an average of 44.40 and a strike rate of 65.81. Iyer has scored five fifties and two hundreds in the longest format. Iyer has predominantly played in the middle-order across formats for India. In the four match Test series Iyer has not batted much.

India lost the last Test Championship final to New Zealand in 2021 at Edgbaston

India had a good start to the Boarder-Gavaskar Trophy as they recorded convincing wins at Nagur and Delhi respectively. At Nagpur, India won by an innings and 132 runs. In Delhi, India won the Test by six wickets. It was all smooth sailing for India after two Tests but, they got a big jolt at Indore where Australia won the match by 9 wickets.

India have struggled on spin conducive pitches which were created to use the home advantage and also keeping the Test Championship final in mind. The final of the Test championship will be played in England at the Oval between June 7 to June 11. India lost the last Test championship final to New Zealand in 2021 at Edgbaston.

Australia have done well in the series with the spin troika of Nathan Lyon, Matt Kuhnemann and Todd Murphy. The Kangaroos scored 480 in the first innings at Ahmedabad in the fourth Test on the back of a stellar 180 from Usman Khawaja. let us take a look at the reactions on Twitter-
