The Indian Test side has been a force to reckon with in Tests. They have made it to two consecutive World Test Championship finals, but they are yet to win the elusive title.  The Rohit Sharma-led side has had an invincible record at home and has also won series abroad. Under Virat Kohli, they won two back-to-back Test series in Australia.  The India Test side has great batters, wonderful bowlers and batting depth all the way up to number 8.

Nasser Hussain, in an interview with the Cricket Governing Body, spoke about what India lacks as the missing element in the Test side. He said that India does not have a pace-bowling all-rounder such as the likes of Ben Stokes, Mitchell Marsh or Cameron Green who can add heft to the batting and also bowl 25-30 overs of pace. Hardik Pandya was a part of the Indian Test side for a short time but he said that he is not wanting to come back to the longest format.

If India can get a seam bowling all-rounder it will give balance to their Test side- Nasser Hussain

“(However) An Indian cricketer at the moment, a (Ben) Stokes type cricketer, a Cameron Green type cricketer, a Mitchell Marsh type cricketer, a batter at No.6 or No.7, away from home, that can bowl you 10 or 15 overs of genuine wicket-taking seam and swing, not a bowler who bats a bit, a batter who can give you 10 overs of seam bowling, and then that balance away from home makes them (India) formidable.” Nasser Hussain said on Wednesday.

“They’ve (India) got senior players like Rohit and obviously Virat and they are just world-class players and they’ve got youngsters coming in, like Shubman (Gill), who’s going to be a superstar. Hussain said. “It’s away from home and the balance of the side and if they (India) can get a seam bowling all-rounder. Hardik (Pandya) would’ve been perfect if Hardik had stayed fit and continued that process,” Hussain added.

The Indian Test side will have their next assignment in South Africa where they have not won a Test series. The last time they toured the Rainbow nation India lost the Test series 2-1. They will be hoping to break the jinx this time around. India lost the last WTC final against Australia at the Oval.
