Indian cricketer Shreyas Iyer was recently spotted in a picture posted by Dhanashree Verma, the wife of Indian spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, on her Instagram story. The picture featured Iyer and her sister Srestha Iyer attending an Iftaar party with their friends during the Ramzaan season. After the picture was posted, fans made different allegations about Dhanashree and Iyer, but they have been spotted hanging out a couple of times over the past few months.

However, Iyer is out of the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL) due to a back injury. He complained of a back problem during the Ahmedabad Test between India and Australia and didn’t come to bat for India in the second innings. He then went on to miss the ODI series against the Aussies and has been ruled out of the ongoing season of IPL.

According to ESPNCricinfo, Iyer will undergo surgery due to which he is likely to miss the Test Championship final in June. He is also doubtful for the upcoming ODI World Cup that is scheduled to be hosted by India later in the year.

Nitish Rana appointed as KKR’s captain in Iyer’s absence

Meanwhile, Kolkata Knight Riders elected Nitish Rana as their skipper in IPL 2023, replacing Iyer. Former Indian cricketer Aakash Chopra recently analyzed the impact of Iyer’s absence on the team. “It is a question that is looming large because he is this team’s captain and their life. He has back spasms at the moment. If he has some back issues, the entire team’s backbone will become weak,” said Chopra on Jio Cinema.

“They have Iyer, Nitish Rana, Rinku Singh, and Mandeep Singh as pure batter options. That’s why Shreyas is extremely important not just as a captain but also as a batter,” he further added.

While Iyer’s picture with Dhanashree and Srestha has garnered attention, his absence from the ongoing IPL and potential absence from the upcoming World Cup due to his back injury has also created concerns for Indian cricket fans and analysts.
