‘Ye Pak easily chase karleta’ – Fans react as KL Rahul and Shreyas Iyer put up highest partnership for fourth wicket in ODI World Cup

Both the batters scored hundred against Netherlands.

Shreyas Iyer and KL Rahul scripted history in the ODI World Cup 2023. In the game against the Netherlands, the duo put up 208 runs for the fourth wicket. It is now the new record for the highest partnership for the fourth wicket in the history of the World Cup by a batting pair. On a good batting surface, the Indian middle-order batters scored runs for fun at a good rate.

Iyer was impressive yet again. The Indian number 3 hit some lovely shots in his stay in the middle. Iyer targeted the leg side well and took on the Netherlands bowlers. Iyer hit some huge blows and took the attack on the Dutch bowlers. In his stay in the middle, the Mumbai batter scored an unbeaten 128*(94), which included 10 fours and 5 sixes. It was wonderful to watch him bat.

It was the first hundred of Iyer in his World Cup career. After scoring fifty against Pakistan, Sri Lanka, and South Africa, Iyer finally got to his first hundred in the ODI World Cup. Iyer is currently the eighth-highest run scorer in the tournament with 421 runs in 9 innings at a batting average of 70.16, at a batting strike rate of 106.58, including a hundred and 3 fifty-plus scores.

KL Rahul scores fastest World Cup hundred by an Indian 

As Iyer hammered the Dutch bowlers, Rahul was at his classy best. The wicketkeeper batter played some lovely drives and backed them up with good strike rotation. After getting set, Rahul was highly aggressive against the pacers. The Karnataka batter played some clever shots by manoeuvring the gaps. Bowlers had no answers to the attack from Rahul.

KL Rahul scored a hundred in just 62 balls, which is now the fastest ton by an Indian batter in the history of the World Cup. Rohit held the record earlier, which he set during the game against Afghanistan in the tournament. In 64 balls, Rahul scored 102 runs at a strike rate of 159.38 which included 11 fours and 4 sixes. In the process, Rahul became only the second Indian wicketkeeper batter to score a World Cup hundred.
