In the second match of the ongoing SA20 Season 2, the Durban Super Giants emerged victorious against MI Cape Town by an 11-run margin. The game, marred by rain interruptions, witnessed a stellar performance from Heinrich Klaasen, who displayed resilience with the bat, leading the home team to a significant run chase. While Ryan Rickelton showcased commendable batting for MICT, Klaasen’s exceptional performance outshone his efforts, ultimately securing the win for the Durban Super Giants.
Earlier, DSG skipper Keshav Maharaj‘s decision to bowl first backfired as MICT set a formidable target of 207/5 in 20 overs. Ryan Rickelton’s brilliant half-century, scoring 87 off 51 balls, propelled MICT to a strong position. He was dismissed by Keemo Paul because he failed to score a magnificent century.
Despite a middle-order slump, skipper Kieron Pollard’s unbeaten 31 off 14 balls added crucial runs. Keemo Paul claimed two wickets for the Durban Super Kings, while Keshav Maharaj, Dwane Pretorius, and Richard Gleeson took one wicket each.
Chasing the imposing target, DSG struggled early, losing two wickets for just 12 runs. Kagiso Rabada and B. Hendricks dismissed Quinton de Kock and Wiaan Mulder cheaply. Keemo Paul’s brief resistance ended with 15 runs, leaving DSG at 52/3. Openers Matthew Breetzek (39 off 24) and Heinrich Klaasen (85 off 35) staged a comeback, adding 47 runs for the fourth wicket.
Klaasen’s onslaught, featuring four boundaries and eight sixes, guided DSG back into contention. His partnership with Nicholas Pooran (41 runs) fueled hope until Kagiso Rabada dismissed Klaasen. However, rain played spoilsport, halting the play and concluding the match without a formal result. After Klaasen’s heroic efforts, DSG won the game by 11 runs due to the DLS method. With this win, DSG gets on top of the points table.
Here is how fans react to DSG’s victory:
Disappointing way for the game to end. Thought @MICapeTown would pull it back and win it. Didn't use their spinners well and Olly Stone is just like Gleeson and Topley.
