Delhi Capitals seamer Mukesh Kumar is expected to be selected for the forthcoming West Indies tours in ODI and Test teams. Senior bowler Mohammed Shami was given a day of respite on Friday to control his workload, while the 29-year-old Bengal was given his first call-up to the India Test team. Mukesh had an ODI call-up against South Africa last year but was not given a game.
Since last year, Mukesh has become more popular. In addition to his performances for Bengal playing domestic cricket, Mukesh received the selectors’ attention when playing for India A, taking two five-wicket hauls, one against Bangladesh and the other against New Zealand A. After that, he was selected by Delhi Capitals during the IPL 2023 auction earning a staggering sum of Rs 5.5 crore. Mukesh played in 10 IPL 2023 games and took only seven wickets, but his best performance came against Sunrisers Hyderabad when he held his team’s lead by defending 11 runs in the last over.

When asked about his Caribbean goal, Mukesh was sure about his choice while talking to India.com in an exclusive interaction. He said, “I was expecting a call in the Indian team one day but did not expect that I will be picked up for both squads.”
The Bengal pacer spoke about his goals from here on in and what he wants to achieve. He said, “My target would be to make the playing XI, bowl good at nets and contribute to the team’s success. I will try my level best to support the team in terms of bowling and fielding.”
Mukesh Kumar then spoke about the two Indian team icons and how he plans to learn from them. He said, “Both are legends of the game. I will try to extract as much as I can from both Rohit Sharma and Virat Kohli. I will speak to them about the field placements and try to grab as much possible from them.”
