Rohit Sharma has been phenomenal for Team India as an opener. The right-handed batter was promoted to bat as an opener by MS Dhoni in 2013. From there, Sharma has been a phenomenal batter in the format. The batter from Mumbai has created numerous records with the bat since then and the consistency of the opener has been incredible.

Rohit has a very good conversion rate in ODIs, particularly as an opener. At his peak in the 2016-19 period, Sharma scored 4377 runs in 78 matches at a batting average of 65.33, at a strike rate of 95.61, including 20 hundred and 16 fifty. The impressive thing about Sharma’s batting is consistency across conditions. Against top teams, Rohit has performed extremely well, which is a hallmark of his legacy.

The best of Rohit Sharma in ODIs came during his peak when he was scoring hundreds for fun. In the 2019 ODI World Cup, Sharma scored a whopping 648 runs in just 9 innings, at a stunning average of 81.00, at a very good strike rate of 98.33, including a whopping 5 hundred and a fifty. The 36-year-old ended the tournament as the highest run scorer.

I was in a good mind space in 2019- Rohit Sharma

5 hundreds scored by Sharma in the tournament was the most by any batter in a single ODI World Cup. Sharma started the tournament on a good note by scoring 122*(144) against South Africa. The Indian captain continued it with a good 57(70) against Australia, scored a big 140(113) against Pakistan, and impressed everyone with a hat-trick of hundreds against England, Bangladesh, and Sri Lanka, respectively.

With the 2023 season of the ODI World Cup approaching faster, Sharma was asked about his performance in the tournament. The Indian star batter remembered the great time and said “I was in a good mind space in 2019. I was feeling really good about my cricket and prepared well before the World Cup. When you are heading into a tournament like that, it helps you a lot and I started with a hundred as well”.
