Mark Wood might not be available for the final stages of the Indian Premier League. The England pacer has left the LSG camp to attend to the birth of his daughter. The chances of him coming back to the IPL look slim. He might star for LSG again only if they end up making the playoffs in IPL 2023. Wood has put up match-winning performances for LSG including a five-wicket haul against Delhi Capitals.

It appears that Wood will not return to the LSG camp as he was seen taking signatures from his teammates before he went away. Wood picked up 11 wickets in the four matches that he played and made a lot of impact for the side. He was unfortunately down with the flu, which meant that Naveen-ul Haq replaced him. The Afghan pacer maximised his opportunities and made Wood’s spot his own. In the video uploaded by LSG, Wood said he will come back stronger and look to do better whenever he gets a chance.

There are some fantastic  characters at LSG – Wood on the Lucknow Super Giants

“For the birth of my daughter. So, sadly, but for a good reason to go home. Hopefully, I might be able to come back and hopefully, you will be able to see me again. I am sorry that unfortunately I have not played more and in the four games that I have managed to play, I have managed to get a few wickets and hopefully, I can charge in again,” Wood said. “It’s a great team togetherness here. I really love the team, the backroom staff are fantastic and it has been great to see the lads do well over different parts of the tournament,” he added.

“One last push and get into those playoffs and make it to the finals. That’s the goal and as a group, we understand that. It is tough in sports, you win some and you lose some but the lads are training hard. There are some fantastic characters in the group and they really try everything for your team. So keep believing and back them up, and I am sure they’ll come good,” Wood added.

LSG lost their last match against Gujarat Titans by 56 runs. Their net run rate took a big hammering due to the loss. The Gautam Gambhir-mentored side lost their skipper KL Rahul due to an injury, recently. In the case of Wood, Naveen will serve as a good backup for him.
