‘Ye baarish ne sab kharab kar diya’ -Fans react as India register 1-0 series win over WI but lose vital WTC points due to rain in Trinidad
India and West Indies locked horns on Day 5 at Port of Spain in Trinidad. India needed 8 wickets to win the second Test and West Indies required 289 runs. But there was no play on Day 5 as the rain had the final say as the match was drawn. Not a single ball was bowled on Day 5. Unlike in Dominica, there were quite a few rain breaks in Trinidad, meaning there were truncated play sessions. India, however, won the series 1-0.
India made a commanding 438 in the first innings. This was primarily due to Virat Kohli’s scintillating knock of 121 off 106 balls with 11 fours. Kohli scored his 29th Test match hundred and also his 76th overall. Yashasvi Jaiswal made a stroke-filled 57 off 74 balls with nine fours and one six. Captain Rohit Sharma also hit 80 off 143 balls with nine fours and two sixes, and Ravindra Jadeja made a valuable 61 off 152 balls with five fours. Ravichandran Ashwin also played a vital hand and struck 56 off 78 balls with two fours. Jomel Warrican and Kemar Roach picked up three wickets each in their respective spells.
India are in second place on the World Test Championship table
In reply West Indies could muster only 255. Skipper Kraigg Brathwaite played a marathon knock of 75 off 235 balls with five fours and seven sixes. Mohammed Siraj was the hero for India as he picked up 5-60 in his 23.4 over spell, which also earned him player of the match. This meant that the Men in Blue were in the driver’s seat with a sizeable lead of 203. In the second innings, India made 181-2 in 24 overs.
The Men in Blue switched to T20 mode with quickfire half-centuries from Rohit and Ishan Kishan. This meant the West Indies needed to chase down a target of 384. India picked up two wickets on Day 4 with the score at 76. Even though India ended up winning the series, they lost some valuable World Test Championship (WTC) points. The Men in Blue are in second place on the WTC points table with 16 points and a point percentage of 66.67. The Men in Blue will now look to do well in the white ball leg of the tour.

Such a shame that we wouldn't have a result for this game, but such is the vagaries of this sport. #WIvIND

That's a sad ending as it will cost WTC points.Despite the rain playing spoilsport & causing the 2nd test to end in a draw, India was exceptional ! winning the 1st Test & dominating the second until the rain intervened. Kudos on the series victory 👏🏆onto the next one ! #WIvIND pic.twitter.com/IsvY9VK7WI

This is India's 9th consecutive test series victory over West Indies dating back from 2002. India have won 4 series at home and 5 series away in the Caribbean. #WIvIND

West Indies are no longer a challenging team.
The collapse started many years ago.
Gone are the days of 80s greats.
This time they can't even qualify for WC and that's enough for anyone to tell how this team is.#WIvIND https://t.co/fRSHg5ofnC— Jahir-ul (@Zuheb_786) July 24, 2023
1st Test Won
2nd Test Draw..
India have won the series against the Weak West Indies but they haven't got full 24 points…as the last day of the second test in Port of Spain washed away.#WIvIND pic.twitter.com/USArHcG0Mu

For @ICC it's just a draw.
But for Windies it's none less than WIN & for 🇮🇳 it's a dent on their another WTC Finals aspirations.
With away tour of 🇿🇦 ,🇦🇺 & 🇦🇺 achieving enough in away Ashes this 100% pt was necessity for🇮🇳.Lord Indra never helped 🇮🇳#CricketTwitter #WIvIND https://t.co/3Sg1z8cdfm
