Yashasvi Jaiswal’s meteoric rise in the past year has been nothing short of phenomenal. From facing the harsh realities of life to etching his name in the record books, his journey encapsulates the essence of grit, determination, and raw talent. Today, he stands as a vital cog in the Indian cricket machine, making his mark in both Test and T20I formats.

Jaiswal‘s Test debut against the West Indies in July 2023 was a dream come true, marked by a century in the very first innings. This wasn’t a fluke; it was a continuation of his dominant domestic performances, where he had shattered records and announced his arrival with a bang. His fearless batting, characterized by powerful strokeplay and an appetite for big scores, instantly endeared him to fans and pundits alike.

But it was his maiden Test double century on against England in the recent Vizag Test, that truly cemented his place as a future star. His 209-run masterpiece in Vizag was a display of both power and maturity, silencing any lingering doubts about his potential. However, Jaiswal’s impact extends beyond just individual brilliance. He brings a much-needed injection of youthful exuberance and an aggressive intent to the top order.

Dhoni and Jaiswal
Jaiswal recalled his first meeting with MS Dhoni, pictures of which went viral instantly.

“That was a gesture of respect to him…”

In a recent interview with JioCinema, Jaiswal was asked about the players that he talks to about the game. He said that he engages in conversations with the likes of MS Dhoni, Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Rahul Dravid to grasp knowledge and improve his game. When asked about what he has learnt from Dhoni, Jaiswal said that the former-Indian captain had once told him that the kind of human that he is off the turf, will essentially define his career trajectory.

He was also asked about his iconic first meeting with the legend during IPL 2020, a picture of which went viral in minutes. Jaiswal was seen greeting Dhoni with folded hands and that picture endeared him to fans and pundits alike.

“I was genuinely pleased to see him for the first time and greeted him with a namaste. Unsure about what to say or how to react, that namaste was a gesture of respect to him as an elder. I believe that was the match where I felt the most nervous, my first-ever IPL game, and Dhoni Sir was keeping, making it a special moment. That image remains one of the best in my life,” he said.
