Southern Brave and London Spirit locked horns against each other in the 10th match of The Hundred 2022 on Friday. London Spirit called the coin right and elected to bat first. The match was played at the Rose Bowl in Southampton. London Spirit got off to the worst possible start after losing Zak Crawley and Rossington early.

Glenn Maxwell and D- Bell Drumound then steadied the ship with some rearguard action. Maxwell looked good for his 34, including 5 fours and 1 six. He was eventually dismissed by James Fuller for the score of 68. Bell Drummond scored 46 off just 33 balls, including 5 fours and 1 six. He made a vital contribution as it allowed the London Spirit side to post a competitive score in their allotted 100 balls.

Kieron Pollard, the West Indian T20 veteran, scored a quick-fire 26 runs off 20 balls to take the London Spirit’s total to 147. On the bowling front, M Hogan picked up 2 wickets for 31 runs in his 20 balls. James fuller and Marcus Stoinis picked up 1 wicket each in 20 and 15 balls bowled and conceded 24 and 15 runs respectively.

In the second Innings, Southern Brave got off to the worst possible start. Skipper James Vince and their overseas import Quinton De Kock got out early in the chase which pegged Southern Brave back immediately.

Alex Davies and Marcus Stoinis then got together and somewhat managed to steady the ship. Davies looked good while he was at the crease, scoring 36 runs off 30 balls, which contained 4 fours and 1 six. He was, eventually, dismissed by the wrist spinner Mason Crane. Marcus Stoinis was scalped by Liam Dawson for just 14. No one else got going for Southern Brave except Ross Whiteley, who scored a good 52 off just 33 balls, which included 5 fours and 1 six.

Whiteley kept Southern Brave in the hunt till the final over. The London Spirit bowling lineup bowled well as an attack and, eventually, defended a not-so-huge score. Jordan Thompson picked up 2 wickets and conceded 33 runs off his 20 balls bowled. All the other bowlers picked up a wicket each except Nathan Ellis. Southern Brave fell just 9 short of the target as they ended up on 138-7.
