‘World won’t end If…’ – Former Indian cricketer’s bold statement on Jasprit Bumrah ahead of WTC finals and ODI World Cup

Bumrah has been struggling with fitness for the past year.

For quite some time, Team India has been missing the services of their prime seamer Jasprit Bumrah. Due to a back issue, the pacer has been out since September 2022. He even skipped the present Border-Gavasakar Trophy match against Australia and the 2022 20-20 World Cup.

Bumrah, who plays for the Mumbai franchise in the Indian T20 League, is anticipated to return to the pitch in the upcoming season. There is a likelihood that the Indian Cricket Board will want Bumrah to take a break from the Indian T20 League for a few games in order to keep an eye on his workload because the World Test Championship final and the ODI World Cup are both planned for this year.

Former Indian opener, Aakash Chopra opined that the Mumbai franchise should rest Bumrah for some games as there is a WTC final and ODI World Cup lined up later this year, and if the Indian Cricket Board says that the speedster needs time to get fully fit for upcoming two mega-events.

I definitely feel the Mumbai franchise will pay heed to it: Aakash Chopra

“You’re an Indian player first and then you play for your franchise. So, if Bumrah feels any discomfort, the BCCI will step in and tell the franchise that we are not going to release him. The world won’t end if he doesn’t play seven games with Jofra Archer,” Chopra was quoted as saying on Sportskeeda.

“At the same time, when you’re fit, you want to keep on playing as that only makes you better. So I definitely feel the Mumbai franchise will pay heed to it if Indian Cricket Board steps in because he is a national treasure and things aren’t as difficult to manage as they seem to be at the moment,” he added.

The Indian Cricket Board recently announced the ODI squad for the three-match series against Australia on Sunday, February 19 in which the 29-year-old is not included. The pacer’s stress fracture recovery has been a slow one, according to Indian Cricket Board, and the Indian team management is unlikely to take a chance by including him in the three ODI series against Australia right after the conclusion of the four-match Test series.
