Shubman Gill, the young Indian batsman, is missing India’s ODI World Cup 2023 encounter against Australia in Chennai. It was verified by the official broadcaster that Gill did not accompany the squad to the location. When word of Gill’s dengue infection broke on Friday, head coach Rahul Dravid assured the media that Gill was doing better and that a doctor was keeping an eye on him.

However, Gill was unable to make a full recovery in time for India’s match against Australia. Who will take Gill’s role as opener, along with skipper Rohit Sharma, is still up in the air. The choices that India may select are Ishan Kishan as well as KL Rahul. Both these players have been included in India’s Playing XI.

Rohit Sharma on Saturday spoke to the media and narrated that Shubman Gill was not ruled out till the very end, He added that given the length of the competition and the fact that each nation would play up to nine games in the league stage. The squad would want to allow the batter adequate time to recuperate from dengue.

He had said, “No, it doesn’t worry. I mean obviously, he is sick. I feel for him. But in terms of, you know, me being the human being first, I want him to get well, not the captain thinking, oh, I want Gill to play tomorrow. No, I want him to get well. You know he’s a young guy, he’s got a fit body so he’ll recover quick.”

Ishan Kishan set to replace Gill in the line-up?

Ishan Kishan put in a lot of work in the nets on Saturday, batting for a lengthy time because the great hitter Shubman Gill is expected to miss time with his sickness.

The Mumbai Indians batter had previously opened for India, and it was at that position that he scored a double century last year against Bangladesh. India will undoubtedly miss Gill, who has scored 1230 runs with an average of 72.35, the highest total in ODIs this year. This year, Gill has struck four of his five hundred in ODIs, and he has a strong record against Australia.
