Dharamshala hosted the 21st game of the ODI World Cup 2023 between India and New Zealand. Rohit Sharma wasted one review early in the contest which left the cricket experts unhappy. This led to Dinesh Karthik quipping why former skipper MS Dhoni is the best in the business while opting for the DRS.

It is the fifth game of the ODI World Cup 2023 tournament for both India and New Zealand. Both the teams have won four games apiece to stay unbeaten so far. A win for either team on Sunday will make them favourites for a place in the semi-finals of the tournament.

Rohit Sharma won the toss and chose to bowl first. India made two changes to their playing XI. Suryakumar Yadav came in for the injured Hardik Pandya, while Mohammad Shami replaced Shardul Thakur.

Dinesh Karthik unimpressed after India loses one review early

Jasprit Bumrah was bowling to Rachin Ravindra from around the wicket. The ball struck the batter on the pad as there was a muted appeal. The Indian bowler convinced Rohit Sharma to take the DRS.

This prompted Rohit Sharma to opt to go up as the rudimentary checks were made. It was found that the impact was Umpire’s call while the ball was easily missing the stumps. India had wasted a review early inside the powerplay overs. Dinesh Karthik who was on commentary at the time said “In India, DRS is Dhoni Review System”

MS Dhoni the former India skipper was known to be impeccable when opting to use the technology. Despite making a slow start during the global events, MS Dhoni became adept at taking the calls from behind the stumps.

The Indian team got two early wickets during the first ten overs to leave New Zealand at 34/2. Mohammad Siraj got things going by dismissing Devon Conway for a nine-ball duck. Shreyas Iyer fielding at square leg took a great diving catch to dismiss the Kiwi opener.

Mohammad Shami playing his first game off the ODI World Cup 2023 struck with his 1st ball. Will Young chopped the ball back onto the stumps to give Shami his 1st wicket and India its 2nd scalp of the game. The Kiwi opener was out for 17 runs from 27 balls with 3 fours in his knock.
