Rain refuses to leave in the Asia Cup 2023.  The Sri Lankan leg of the tournament has largely resulted in rain-hit encounters and forced abandonment of games. Only 24.1 overs of play was possible on September 10, the scheduled day of the India-Pakistan game.  The Men in Blue were on 147-2, Rohut Sharma hit 56 off 49 balls with six fours and four sixes. Shubman Gill cracked 58 off 52 balls with 10 fours.

A Full 50-over game will be played and will start at 3 PM local. The match will continue on Monday and will start at the same score at 147-2. It should be noted that a minimum of 20 overs is required to be bowled in the two innings to get a result.  If the Super Four game between the two teams is washed out then both teams will have to split points amongst themselves. The India-Pakistan Group game in Pallkele was also abandoned due to rain and both teams had to share one point each.

Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the India-Pakistan clash due to a back spasm

Though the Pakistan leg of Asia Cup 2023 had only four games to talk about all four of them had yielded results and provided great entertainment to the cricket-loving crowd there. The Sri Lankan leg has been very frustrating from the point of view of the fans and also from the players point of view. When it comes to the players, they can put their feet up and enjoy a little downtime but, they would not be able to get into the World Cup rhythm as rain has played spoilsport for most of the games.

The Men in Blue also have certain selection headaches to deal with as Shreyas Iyer was ruled out of the Super Four clash against Pakistan with a back spasm. Sanjay Manjrekar also talked about the issue and said that Iyer’s body might not be ready for the workload in international cricket yet. The same could be said about KL Rahul who is also returning from injury. With India’s present situation in dire straits, there might be changes to be made to the World Cup squad before the deadline.
