Australia dominated the second day’s play at Ahmedabad in the fourth Test of the Border-Gavaskar Trophy. Australia ended Day 1 on 255-4 with Usman Khawaja unbeaten on 104 and Cameron Green unbeaten on 49. On Day 2 Khawaja converted it into a magnificent 180 off 422 balls with 21 fours. Green turned his score into what would be his maiden Test ton. He scored 114 off 170 balls with 18 fours.  This allowed Australia to get to 480 in the first innings.

When India started their innings, they watchfully played out the new ball and ended their day on 36-0 with Rohit Sharma unbeaten on 17 off 33 balls and Shubman Gill unbeaten on 18 off 27 balls. In the second innings, Virat Kohli will be the key for India and they need to score big to have any chance of saving the game. Kohli had a batting session for a short time after Day 2 ended. The former India captain was seen knocking a few balls wearing his pads.

Kohli has scored 111 runs in Test four matches for India in 2023

Kohli has not been in the best of form when he has played Test cricket off late. The Delhi-batter got himself in in the first three Tests but could not convert those starts. The-34-year-old scored 12 off 26 balls with two fours in the first Test at Nagpur where he batted in just the one innings. India won the first Test by an innings and 132 runs. In the second Test at Delhi, he scored 44 off 84 balls with four fours in the first innings. In the second innings, he scored 20 off 31 balls with three fours.

Kohli scored 22 off 52 balls with two fours in the first innings at Indore. In the second innings, he scored 13 off 26 balls. India won the second Test at Delhi by six wickets and were leading 2-0 in the series. Australia came storming back with a 9-wicket win. The Border-Gavaskar Trophy was retained by India.

The Kangaroos had a good partnership lower down the order with Todd Murphy scoring 41 off 61 balls with five fours. Nathan Lyon provided great support and made 34 off 96 balls with six fours. Australia made the most of Day 2 and wore India down.
