Indian star batter Virat Kohli had a disappointing outing during a practice match ahead of the West Indies tour. It was played on Wednesday as the Rohit Sharma-led Men in Blue began to prepare for the forthcoming two-match Test series against the West Indies commencing from July 12. The 34-year-old was dismissed during the game as a result of his failed attempt to attack outside off-stump deliveries.

After initially delivering over the wicket for several balls, Indian star pacer Jaydev Unadkat bowled around the wicket and produced a good length outside the off-stump. Kohli attempted a hard-handed tap but guided an easy catch to the fielder. The veteran just 2 runs in the innings before departing.

The stylish right-handed batter appears to be suffering with the bat in Test matches and falling below the high standards he has set. Notably, the former India captain was expected to perform well in the recently-concluded World Test Championship (WTC) final against the Pat Cummins-led Australian side. Kohli did have a remarkable IPL in the 2023 season as he smashed two centuries, but he couldn’t continue his form in the WTC final as he departed for 14 and 49 runs in respective innings.

Kohli expected to be among runs for Windies tour

Throughout the span of 23 Tests in the last three years, the Delhi-born cricketer produced 1,239 runs at an average of 31.76, with six half-centuries and just one century, which came in this March against Australia. The Indian batter is expected to get back to his consistent scoring form in his preferred format during the upcoming series.

Notably, with Mohammed Shami’s absence from the squad, Jaydev Unadkat will be expected to take over in Indian the pace unit, which additionally includes Shardul Thakur, Mohammad Siraj, Mukesh Kumar and Navdeep Saini. Following the Test series, the two teams will square up for three ODIs and five T20Is. Following India’s loss in WTC final and West Indies’ early elimination from ODI World Cup 2023 Qualifiers, both teams will be raring to get back to winning ways.
