Caribbean Premier League 2023

WATCH: Umpire turns down Imran Tahir’s LBW appeal with John Cena’s ‘You can’t see me’ gesture in CPL 2023

In the viral video, the on-field umpire's unique way of refusing to appeal caught fans' attention.

In qualifier 1 of the ongoing Caribbean Premier League 2023, the Trinbago Knight Riders beat the Guyana Amazon Warriors by seven wickets to qualify for the finals. Riding on Chadwick Walton’s half-century, Trinbago chased 167 runs on target comfortably. However, a video from the game went viral on social media, which left fans in awe.

In the viral video, the on-field umpire’s unique way of refusing to appeal caught fans’ attention. The video is from the fifth over of a run chase when Guyana skipper Imran Tahir came to bowl his first over. On the very first delivery, Tahir trapped Mary Deyal before the wickets and made a huge appeal for Leg before. However, the on-field umpire turned down his appeal as he could not see the landing of the ball.

Actually, while bowling, Tahir unintentionally covered the umpire’s line of sight. As the umpire could not see anything, he used WWE wrestler John Cena’s iconic You Can’t See Me move to express his inability to make a decision. However, the umpire went upstairs, and the review gave a crucial breakthrough to the Guyana Amazon Warriors. Deyal was trapped leg before wicket and was dismissed for a mere 15 runs off 11 deliveries.

Here is the video:

Chadwick Walton single-handedly won the game for Trinbago

Despite an early setback, the Trinbago Knight Riders continued their dominance with the bat. Opener Chadwick Walton, along with Nicholas Pooran, added 51 runs for the second wicket. Pooran, in his inning, scored 33 runs off 24 balls with the help of two fours and two sixes. After his departure, Walton sparked another 50+ partnership with Kieron Pollard. Pollard, in his inning, scored 23 runs off 15 balls with the help of two fours and a six.

Walton remained unbeaten and went on to finish the game. He scored an unbeatable 80 runs off 57 balls with the help of six fours and four sixes. With this victory, the Trinbago Knight Riders moved on to the finals of the tournament. They will be joined by the winners of Qualifier 2 between the Guyana Amazon Warriors and the Jamaica Tallawahs.
