CPL 2023: Barbados Royals beat Jamaica Tallawahs by six wickets in 14th game

For Jamaica Tallawahs Crish Green took two wickets, while Salman Irshad and Imad Wasim took one wicket each

In the 14th match of the Caribbean Premier League 2023, the Barbados Royals beat the Jamaica Tallawahs by six wickets. Riding on Alick Athanaze’s amazing half-century, the Royals successfully chased the 161-run target after restricting Jamaica Tallawahs to 160/7 in 20 overs.

Earlier, after winning the toss, Barbados Royals skipper Rovman Powell opted to bowl first. His decision did go well with the team, as the Jamaica Tallawahs lost three wickets for just 23 runs within the powerplay. Opener Alex Hales and skipper Brandon King scored 12 and 1, respectively. Apart from them, Kirk McKenzie also failed, as he was dismissed by Kyle Mayers for a mere seven runs.

However, Samrah Brook and R. Reifer added 54 runs for the fourth wicket. Reifer, in his innings, scored 16 runs off 20 balls with the help of a boundary. Meanwhile, Brook hammered the Royals’ bowling line-up and scored his half-century. Brook, in his innings, scored 78 runs off 41 balls with the help of seven fours and four sixes. With the help of his innings, the Jamaica Tallawahs posted a competitive total of 160/7 in 20 overs.

Alick Athanaze’s amazing performance helped Barbados win the game

Chasing 160+ runs, Barbados got the worst possible start as they lost two wickets for just 25 runs. Openers Kyle Mayers and R. Cornwall failed to score runs as they were dismissed after scoring 4 and 17 runs, respectively. After their departure, Laurie Evans and Alick Athanaze added 89 runs for the third wicket. Evans, in his inning, scored 30 runs off 26 balls with the help of four boundaries.

Meanwhile, Athanaze’s innings scored 76 runs off 48 balls with the help of seven fours and three sixes. In the end, Rovman Powell and Jason Holder helped Barbados clinch the game by six wickets. For Jamaica Tallawahs Crish Green took two wickets, while Salman Irshad and Imad Wasim took one wicket each. With this victory, the Barbados Royals earned five points in five games this season.
