WATCH: Simon Doull criticizes Babar Azam of not putting the ‘team first’ as he scores century in PSL
The Pakistan Super League (PSL) match between Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators was a spectacle, with over 480 runs scored. Quetta chased down the target with 10 balls to spare after Babar Azam‘s century helped his team to a massive total of 240/2 in 20 overs.
However, former New Zealand pacer turned broadcaster Simon Doull was not happy with Babar’s approach as he reached his century in the game. Doull slammed the star batter, accusing him of putting his “personal ambitions” ahead of the team’s.
Before Jason Roy’s incredible 145-run performance off just 63 balls, Babar had led his side with a 65-ball 115. While Babar and Roy batted admirably, some were displeased with Babar’s decline in scoring rate near the century mark. The former Kiwi player observed the shift in gear and immediately called out Babar.
“Rather than putting the team first… the last little while, that’s all that been happening. Rather than looking for boundaries, still, so much firepower to come. Hundreds are brilliant, stats are great, but it has to be team first,” Doull said during the match.

At the Pindi Club Ground, Saim Ayub (74 runs in 34 balls), the Peshawar captain’s opening partner, also registered a half-century. With 10 balls to spare in the chase, Roy put on a one-man show, smashing 145 runs in 63 balls, including 20 boundaries and five sixes. Throughout the game, only four wickets were taken.
As the tournament draws to a close, teams are now vying for a place in the playoffs. Peshawar Zalmi presently holds the fourth spot after four victories in eight games. Quetta Gladiators, on the other hand, have lost six of their last nine games and are no longer in contention to make the playoffs.
Peshawar Zalmi, however, can still make it to the next round of the tournament. They will have to win both their remaining games to stand a chance to qualify for the Playoffs. They play the third-placed Multan Sultans in their next match on the 10th of March.
