In a gripping showdown at the Dubai International Stadium, the Desert Vipers secured an exhilarating two-wicket win against MI Emirates in the 15th match of ILT20 season 2. The contest kept fans on the edge of their seats, culminating in a nail-biting last-ball finish. Shaheen Afridi played a pivotal role in guiding the Desert Vipers to a heart-stopping two-wicket victory against MI Emirates at the Dubai International Cricket Stadium in the ongoing ILT20 2024 on Tuesday, January 30.
With just two wickets in hand, the Vipers needed 10 runs off the final over, bowled by veteran New Zealand pacer Trent Boult. Boult delivered effectively, yielding only seven runs from the first five balls. With three needed off the final delivery, Afridi, expecting a full-length delivery, adjusted his stance and attempted a powerful shot. The ball nicked the outside edge of Afridi’s bat, heading towards the third-man area.
The star Pakistan speedster and non-striker Mark Word swiftly completed three runs, securing a thrilling two-wicket victory for the Vipers. In pursuit of 150 runs, the Vipers’ top-order struggled initially, failing to produce substantial contributions. However, Sherfane Rutherford’s 35-run innings in the latter stages provided a ray of hope. Shaheen Afridi also played a valuable role, ending unbeaten on 17 runs, guiding the Vipers to a thrilling last-ball victory over the league leaders.
