The warm-up match between Pakistan and England was played at the Gabba in Brisbane. The coin went England’s way and then chose to bowl. Pakistan were provided a good start with Shan Masood scoring 39 off 22 balls with seven fours and Haider Ali getting a quick 18 off 16 balls with three fours.

The rest of the Pakistan batters got starts but could get a big score. Iftikhar Ahmed got 22 off 18 balls with three fours. When Mohammad Nawaz was dismissed at 124-6, Pakistan were in a spot of bother. But the Men in Green found a savior who turned out to be Mohammad Wasim Jr who scored a vital 26 off 16 balls with three fours and a six.

The vital cameo allowed Pakistan to get to 160-8 in their 19 overs. David Willey was the pick of the bowlers as he picked up 2 wickets for 22 runs in his two overs. Sam Curran also scalped one as he conceded only 14 runs from his 2 overs.

In the second innings, England had a scary start as Phil Salt was dismissed by Naseem Shah first up and Alex Hales followed suit scoring only 9 runs. There was an incident that gave a comic moment in the second innings. The incident unfolded in the penultimate ball of the eighth over.

Shadab Khan was bowling to Liam Livingstone, who pushed the ball to cover but there was confusion in calling for a run. Harris Rauf was fielding at cover and the batters were unsure whether the stop would be made. It was confusion in the middle as Livingstone said no but, Harry Brook was already halfway down the pitch. Rauf was the culprit here as instead of throwing the ball to the bowler, he went for the direct hit and missed. Eventually, England scored 2 runs off that ball.

England won the match courtesy of contributions from Ben Stokes, Liam Livingstone, Brook, and Sam Curran who helped England chase a target of 163 in the 14th over.
