The Indian team began their tour of Zimbabwe in the first ODI and the Indian new ball bowlers troubled the hosts in the initial stages of the match. The comeback man, Deepak Chahar, was on song with the swinging ball and rattled the batters with three wickets to his name. But the Indian bowler had a nervous moment when Sanju Samson fumbled a routine take only to grab it spectacularly on the second attempt.

KL Rahul won the toss and choose to bowl first on a pitch that provided enough assistance for the pace bowlers, and his fast bowlers didn’t disappoint the stand-in skipper either. An overenthusiastic  Deepak Chahar did not start well at the beginning of his spell. This was bound to happen as it was his first taste of international cricket since February.

However, the superb swing bowler dominated things for the Men in Blue with an uncharacteristic delivery as he hurried the Zimbabwe opening batter, Innocent Kaia, for room on a short delivery that got the top edge of the bat and flew to the keeper. Samson, who is keeping the wickets for India, made a mess of an easy grab and fumbled it before showing superb reflexes and awareness to snaffle it on the second attempt to give the visitors the opening wicket in the match.

Deepak Chahar, who has been named on standby for the Asia Cup squad, presented a strong case for his selection in the upcoming 20-20 World Cup in Australia with an amazing display of swing bowling, leaving the batters clueless at the crease.

Sanju Samson who was slotted in the team ahead of the in-form Rahul Tripathi has been brilliant behind the wickets and will like to make a strong case for his selection in the team with the bat in hand, especially with three wicket-keeping batters playing in the team in the opening ODI against Zimbabwe.  Ishan Kishan and skipper KL are breathing down his necks for the spot, while Rishabh Pant is the first choice option for the Men in Blue as of now.
